From Research to Impact: Beth Rodgers on Strengthening Legal Support for People Living with BBVs

How can research partnerships strengthen community legal services and improve the lives of people living with blood-borne viruses (BBVs)?

For Beth Rodgers, former Strategic Policy Lawyer at the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC), her Health+Law-funded position created the capacity to contribute beyond direct legal assistance.

Over nearly three years, Beth worked on complex client matters, policy and law reform, legal health literacy resources and service evaluation. She also helped translate research into evidence that supported advocacy, highlighted unmet legal need and strengthened funding applications.

As part of Health+Law’s Impact Stories series, Beth reflected on how the role expanded her practice and enabled HALC to have a greater impact across the BBV sector. She discussed the value of bringing together academic research and frontline legal practice, including how the Legal Needs Study (LeNS) informed policy and advocacy work, and increased direct access to specialist legal support.
