Health+Law Legal Needs Study

December 2023

The Health+Law research partnership is inviting people living with HIV or Hepatitis B to participate in new research about their life and health as part of our Legal Needs Study (LeNS).

What does participation involve?

LeNS uses both interviews and a survey to understand more about the legal needs and experiences of community members. LeNS interviews are conversational, we’re interested in learning about how people living with HIV or Hepatitis B experience migration, health services, government services, and more. The aim of the interviews is to better understand the impact of the law on people’s careers, mental health, physical health, family life and engagement with community. Most interviews are less than 60 minutes and participants receive a gift card for their time. For any participant who may need a legal referral, a dedicated solicitor is available to provide information, referral or legal advice to those who need it.

Dr Anthea Vogl, Rhys Evans, Cara Bruce, and Jordan Roods are the interviewing team.

How do we connect with community?

Health+Law has been working closely with peer workers from community organisations in each state and territory to connect to prospective interview participants. These peer workers have joined the Health+Law research team, working alongside Lead Researchers, Dr David Carter and Dr Anthea Vogl and Research Co-ordinator, Katrina Mathieson to recruit and support participants through the interview process.

Prospective interview participants can also submit their details through the Health+Law website.

If you would like to be involved, you can register your interest here and read more about the recruitment process here
